Addressing the Legacy of Military Executions in Dawn is Deadly.
World War I was a period marked by unprecedented devastation, immense loss, and morally complex decisions. Among the most tragic and controversial aspects of the war were the military executions of soldiers accused of cowardice or desertion, many of whom were later understood to be suffering from shell shock (now recognized as PTSD), malnourishment, and the unbearable strain of trench warfare. These men, often young and vulnerable, were thrust into nightmarish conditions and judged by standards that lacked psychological understanding, underscoring the harsh realities and human cost of war.
In my upcoming novel, Dawn is Deadly, set in 1919, we follow Anna and Percy from Broken Faces as they confront this troubling legacy, uncovering a chilling scenario in which former soldiers are being systematically targeted after the war.
Driven by a deep sense of justice, Anna and Percy are drawn into a tense and perilous investigation. As they probe the mysterious killings, disturbing truths begin to surface about the moral dilemmas faced not only by the accused, but also by the soldiers ordered to carry out the executions.
Through rigorous research, I aim to raise compelling questions about justice, revenge, and accountability, challenging readers to grapple with the difficult choices and haunting aftermath of wartime, all while engaging them in a gripping mystery set during a time of shifting social dynamics.
For historical fiction enthusiasts and readers committed to uncovering the hidden layers of our past, Dawn is Deadly continues my effort to bridge forgotten history with contemporary storytelling, underscoring the importance of remembering and honoring the experiences that shape our world.
